Funcom is asking people to give Age of Conan another shot a year post-launch and many updates later. They''ve offered a free 14-day re-evaluation period and according to CEO Trond Arne Aas, they have turned the game around. A year ago they gave the game a score of 8/10, now the same reviewer goes back to the drawing board. The reviewer admits to foolishly scoring the game the first time based on potential. Age of Conan is living up to much of the promise which led to my initial, over-optimistic 8/10 score. Even now, it''s a flawed gem. It doesn''t have the breadth, scope, polish or charm of WOW, Warhammer Online or Lord of the Rings Online, and it''s hard not to see it as a second-string MMO - but unlike last time I returned to Age of Conan, it now feels like a game with direction, and a team that''s capable of delivering on its promises. I was wrong 12 months ago - too forgiving of faults that ran deeper than I imagined. To say that it''s been a rough year for Funcom and Age of Conan would be an understatement.
